Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), through the Battle Creek Housing Commission, pays the balance directly to the landlord by contract with the landlord. Participant families include elderly persons, disabled persons and working families who do not earn enough to keep pace with rising rental housing costs.Įligible applicants are responsible for finding their own rental unit of the appropriate size that meets the requirements of the program and pay a portion of their income toward rent. The rental units are privately owned and may be single family houses or apartments in an apartment complex.
